Boxing Day Swim 2007
After the hard frosts of the last week, a relatively mild air temperature and flat calm sea greeted the swimmers for this year's swim.
In total 103 people took to the water at 11am, with over 200 more spectators on the beach - smashing our previous record of 76 from last year. We welcomed people from as far afield as London, Wales, and even one teenage surfer from Australia who braved a North Sea around 20 degrees colder than what he was used to!
While most people were in and out pretty quickly, some of the more hardy lifeguards and Rookies spent almost 20 minutes in the water swimming, splashing and trying to surf the 2 inch waves!
Thank you to everyone who took part and/or supported us on the beach. NSVL is currently raising money for a new Lifeguard Training Centre to replace our existing cramped conditions, and a new Inshore Rescue Boat. A final total will be announced in due course, but with the support of Next2Buy and individual sponsorship efforts, we hope to have raised our largest amount yet.
